[Josuke whistles, both impressed by Kanaya's display and in awe of the zoo standing suddenly at the end of his walkway. He doesn't think getting from point A to point B can get any more convenient than this.]
...now that's how you travel.
[Of course, the ear-to-ear grin he's wearing fades quickly when Kanaya brings up the reptile habitat.]
Uh...well, it might not be a good idea to bring an egg there, y'know?
[And while that's true and happens to be a genuine concern of Josuke's, he's opposed to the habitat in part due to his own fears.]
Believe me when I say, Mr. Edgeworth, that is entirely the intention. Everything I have done in this matter has been to ensure both the safety of the victims themselves and the world around them.
It's taken work, but each of them has managed to reintegrate themselves into society successfully, fully equipped with the knowledge they need to manage their condition. If there is only one thing I find unsatisfactory, it is that I have not yet conceived a way to maintain their diets independently. But, obviously, it is restrictive enough that exploring new options can't be done without extreme care.
[ She steps through the portal herself, headed toward the ticket gate, and smiles at the basket. ]
Because some of them are ovophages? They aren't exactly roaming free, and they'd have a bad time trying to fit her in their mouths without puncturing something!
I think the likelihood is remote, but if you're that concerned, I'm sure we can skip it.
[Reintegration. They're not forced to hide away, as he had imagined. Their lives were not stolen from them. They have not been ruined. And they have not made nuisances of themselves in the meantime, either. Edgeworth taps his finger against the device, his thoughts racing as he readjusts his assumptions]
And what are their restrictions, exactly? I know that Matthews fed off of that werewolf - I assume that anyone inhuman can be a donor?
Werewolves are human. I know the people on this planet tend to be wildly xenophobic, but for someone who is unambiguously inhuman, it can be ridiculous to watch it from the outside.
[ Not that she has much room to talk, considering where she comes from. ]
The blood has to be fresh, from a living donor, and can't be from an animal. At least according to Matthews' claims, but I'm not sacrificing anything to put it to the test. Still, not strictly human, which is lucky given the best source I can provide from. Humanoid, maybe. [ She needs to find a better word to replace that, it's as bad as "alien". ]
They're strictly nocturnal, as well. Even as mild as the sun here is, it will fry them.
[Wha-no! A werewolf is certainly not a human being. At best, they're only part-time humans! They're- ugh, he doesn't have time to nitpick details like this with some... some vampire from Planet X, or wherever the hell it is that trolls come from.]
A werewolf is still remarkably different than the native population.
[His voice takes a sulky tone, despite his best efforts to remain composed, but before it can develop into a full-blown pout, he's struck by a sudden realization]
...wait a moment. What about imPorts? Not specific imPorts, not just werewolves and... well, whatever it is that Dorian Gray is now, but imPorts as a whole. Are they different enough to work as donors without-
[He clears his throat, trying not to think too hard on the implications]
[ Newt drags a hand through his hair, looking tired and worn despite feeling more alive than he has in weeks. Just because he feels alive doesn't make it feel anymore real after what he knows happened. A gun to his head, begging and screaming for it to end and then blankness.
To wake up again now is surreal, and if he hadn't been there before, he'd think it some sort of afterlife. But in a way, that's what it is for him now, isn't it?
He scratches the back of his neck, lips pressed together. He could avoid it, but Kanaya won't let him just pretend there's nothing amiss. ]
Hey, who knows what kinda mutant reptiles they got in there, right? S'better to be safe than sorry. What kinda uncle would I be if I let one of those scaly beasts get a mouthful of my eggniece?
[Josuke follows Kanaya through the portal a bit more hesitantly, but once he's through, he's grinning quite widely in the direction they came from. Real handy trick, traveling like that...and there's a lot less nausea for first timers than there was with the Porters. In fact, there's like, no nausea at all.
...and then he looks back to Kanaya, cheeks coloring a bit.]
Er, I probably shouldn't call myself the uncle, huh?
[He just kinda likes babies, that's all. Might be a handful, might be kinda gross once in a while, but they're pretty innocent and super cute the rest of the time.]
I didn't say they're your standard-issue baseline human, but they're certainly human. They simply have certain supernatural enhancements. It would be no less wrong to claim I'm no longer a troll, simply because I am very different from most of my species.
[ Instead they just have a similarly rigid hierarchy for their twelve recognize baselines. Anyone out of that, well, they're in trouble. ]
I can't really speak to how any other imPort would react to donating their dinners. I really only have one that I can unreservedly make any use of. I don't know that I'd like to risk anyone else.
[ She takes a seat on the bed, resting the Matriorb on her lap. It's plain from his manner that it's something big, and even if she can't avoid it, she can't exactly pry it out of him. It will need to be done gently, with care. But caring is the whole point. ]
He's talked about his meat-shaped bedding, and the updates he's made to his notes. But nothing related to you, no.
As long as it doesn't mean I have to consider you my brother, I don't imagine it should do any real harm. Nothing meant against you, it's just...well, it would be a bit weird.
[ They don't really have siblings where she comes from, though there is one person she'd almost come to consider her brother. It's a very special, reserved title. She'll just tell Ashiah that's it's weird human stuff, as if Ashiah will even understand it anyway. ]
And you really don't have to worry about any reptiles posing a threat to the Matriorb. If anything should dare to try, I'll simply slice them in half.
[ She doesn't say it as a joke, though her light tone might mistake it for one. It's just a simple fact to her, threatening reptiles get intimately acquainted with her chainsaw. That's how it is and how it will ever be.
Leaving that one hanging in the air, she approaches the ticket gate and smiles at the attendant. ]
One please. Um, unless... Nevermind, that's ridiculous. [ Of course she wouldn't ned to buy one for the egg. She glances back to Josuke. ] Should I pay for yours, as well?
[ Meat shaped bedding?? What the hell does that even mean.
He shakes his head. ] Nevermind, it's not important.
[ If he doesn't own up now, he may just avoid the subject forever, and Kanaya's the one other person besides Thomas that knows about the note (or so he thinks, anyway).
He looks away from her, frowns, thinks about how he wants to begin. ]
Recall me sayin' I thought Thomas was the only shank that'd have the eggs to kill me when the time was right? [ He shifts, looks back at her. ] I was right.

[ Her eyes widen, lips parting more in shock than having something to say. You'd think with all the experience she's had that this would be easier to answer, but it never means any less to the person it happens, never weighs less heavily on them. It's certainly a bigger deal than a cheeseburger bed.
Kanaya rises back to her feet, leaving the orb on the bed, and pulls him into another hug. This one less joyful, more for comfort than celebration. ]
It's alright now. At least here, you'll get your chance to be free of it.
Don't think less of him for it. It's what I wanted.
[ Newt is all stiff limbs and awkwardness in the hug, barely reciprocating it. Is it really alright? He doesn't even want to be here. And why should he deserve the second chance? ]
I... made him do it. Almost killed him when he kept resisting. [ His expression is drawn, and he chews at his lip. ] Don't really think I have any right being alive now, ya know?
No offense taken! It's not like we really know each other that well, not yet.
[Meaning he'd like to, one day, whether or not that results in familial titles being exchanged or not. At least, that's what he's thinking, but when Kanaya starts talking about slicing reptiles in half, he gets a funny look on his face. He might not like them much himself, but...he doesn't wish them dead.]
Um, you're the mother, so maybe you should just focus on getting the Matriorb to safety if something happens and let me take care of the asskicking? Like uncles do. [In fact, you know what, he's gonna pass the basket off to Kanaya again. For two reasons. One, if she's holding onto Ashiah, maybe Kanaya will be a lot less likely to go into attack mode, and two...he invited her, so he's got the tickets. He looks at the ticket attendant and waves a hand.] Make it two, and I got them, don't worry about it.
[ He drags his hands through his hair, revealing the scar for a second before his hair falls back into place. That's going to be a habit he needs to get rid of. ]
I haven't a clue how I'm going to face him. I'm not sure if he evens knows yet.
[ Death scars are never fun. It's why you'll never see Kanaya in a crop top.
Not that you would anyway, but losing backless gowns was a real shame. ]
In m experience, it's best to get these things out in the open as soon as you can. It can all go to hell otherwise, especially with something this close to heart.
[ How badly things got with Nepeta, she'll never forget. There's a reason she broke silence with Rose for this exact kind of news, even after everything that had happened to them. ]
It isn't going to be easy, but it's something you'll have to prepare yourself to do. Perhaps sooner than you would have liked.
There wasn't. But somehow, Toby's gotten an idea into his head that the best way for him to deal with the fact that he's sired some of the natives is to turn himself in to the police.
