There wasn't. But somehow, Toby's gotten an idea into his head that the best way for him to deal with the fact that he's sired some of the natives is to turn himself in to the police.
Oh you hypocrite. I don't drag your dirty laundry out for other people, though I'm honestly thinking that I should, you've got no right to drag out Toby's like that.
Neither was I. Archangel wasn't something I consider a smudge on my record.
[ Earlier this year, that line could have brought her low. But she's found her footing since, she's starting to push more of the guilt on Osborn than herself, and they're so close to making him pay for it.
Though the parallels are closer than Dorian probably realizes, even if Kanaya was mostly only used as a "recruiter". ]
My hands may not be clean, but they don't make him any more innocent.
[ Dorian refrains from pointing out that people got arrested, usually that's considered a smudge. ]
You're right. I simply thought that your dirty hands would make you think twice before throwing Toby under the bus to whoever you talked with—because it certainly wasn't you who put that idea in his head.
I wouldn't have to, not the way others have spoken about it. But I threw myself under the bus, he doesn't deserve to escape consequences simply because he matters to you.
"Like hell." That was the promise I made, wasn't it?
Don't lay that bullshit at my feet, Dorian! A vampire groupie doesn't have room to tell an actual vampire how it works.
This isn't simply because he's a vampire, it's what he's used that vampirism as an excuse to do. It's about four lives he's ruined, that I've had to put back together! He had every chance to stop, but he just kept repeating the same crime.
And now, because he couldn't practice a little restraint, his four progeny are under the same scrutiny, because of what he's tried to excuse as being simply part of being a vampire!
Oh you martyr. Kanaya Maryam, taking up the wayward vampire children so she can use it to guilt everybody later on. [ you can hear the eyeroll accompanying his words. ]
If his progeny had any sense, they'd realize what a blessing immortality is. They'd also get the hell out of dodge, but I suppose it's hard to escape indoctrination.
Escaping indoctrination is why I got Natalie away from you! And the others? He just left them to their own devices, when I didn't have to stop him from killing them!
This is absolutely something he should bear guilt for!
[ Too bad Dorian didn't go with video, he can't see all the hilariously angry handwaving she's doing. ]
Have you even stopped to think how much he's hurt these people?! Or are you so busy thinking they should be grateful that he's upended their lives!
The only reason he stopped is because he was threatened and forced to. Jail is exactly where someone like that belongs. And if you're so cross with being separated, maybe you should offer to share his bunk!
They have immortality, of course they should be grateful!
[ whereas Dorian is just doing huffy pouting on his end. ]
If you gave even a little bit of a damn about Toby, you would have asked about his circumstances before trumpeting him as a vampire terror or what have you.
When have I indicated that I've ever given a damn about Toby? Under different circumstances, I might more sympathetic, but when I first met him he was trying to kill an innocent man!
That isn't a situation that calls for talk, but action. And ever since, all I've had to hear from him or you are whinging and excuses.
For a damn good reason! He literally came back to life back home and then a few days later gets shoved into this place, I think excuses are justifiable.
[ Dorian...probably shouldn't be telling Kanaya this, but he's too wrapped up in being shouty at her to notice these things. ]
He's only just getting to the point where he's not afraid of himself enough to visit them. He still can't bring himself to sleep in the same house, doesn't want them to wake up to find him standing over them the way Tobias had to him.
Somehow, I don't think "it's alright, the man who did this didn't mean to" will go over very well!
At least, in your mind he's only just getting to the point where he's not afraid of himself enough to visit them. I'm sure that, if he were willing and not held hostage in your gilded cage, he or one of the others would have left you by now.
You have no idea what their circumstances are, if you think they're hostages. Natalie was a hostage, before I freed her from you.
These are people with their own lives, their own jobs. I don't even live in the same city as them! I feed them, I help them as I can. But the whole point is to let them live on their own.
Live on their own as long as they've got regular check-ins with Matron Maryam, that is. The only way they'll properly learn what to do or what not to do is if you cut all ties. Experience is the best teacher.

I'd have dragged him in myself, if my hands weren't already full picking up the pieces he scatters about.
voice
This is hardly his fault.

And I did turn myself in, and serve my time. Hypocrisy would be letting him do any less.

[ it...is entirely possible that Dorian's mixing up his 'what did Kanaya get in trouble for'
also, look at Dorian just dodging that question about his dirty laundry like a pro ]
