All I want to do is ask you a few questions about what happened when the Porter shut off back in the City. [ pause, because that doesn't translate well over voice. ] The capitol-C-City, which I believe is the name of the world that you were in prior to this.

That wasn't the name of the world, the world's name was Earth. Who names a world The City? Not that it's a terribly imaginative name for a city, either. But then, I suppose it's typical of a species that would name its planet "Earth".

[ if she was looking for needless pedantry, she's in the right place. ]

But you're assuming the Porter ever actually shut off. If she had, it would have been after our departure.

How close were you able to get to the Porter before you left that world?

She wasn't particularly guarded, we weren't barred from her bay the way we are here, so anyone had free access to it. Which isn't to say she wouldn't retaliate if you tried messing about with it, I had a colleague who attempted to study her workings once, only to be rather immediately relocated to the Himalayas.

That's a mountain range, on the other side of the world. Just in case you were unaware.

Did your Porter ever emit radiation?

[ she could say she can never tell what can be taken for granted, but let's be real, she's deliberately being a shit. ]

Probably. Why? [ too many moronic ideas going around about radiation here. now that they've gotten off of the one obviously wrong explanation for powers, she really hopes no one's starting to take the official explanation seriously. ]

I'm working on an article. [ and that's all the explanation she wants to give. ] Mind telling me more about that Porter?

It's far too general a subject to speak on without more specifics. I couldn't tell you about the radiation. But if your article is about the radiation here being considered the purported source of our powers, I can tell you now that it's nonsense.

Oh, I know that the radiation isn't the source of our powers. I can turn things leopard-print, no sort of radiation can do that to someone.

Alongside other things the Porter has changed in us. [ like the drastic biological changes it's done to her. ] But that is the government's official position on their origin. Whatever their scientists may believe about the Porter, and especially whatever study you're doing on its radiation, I'd hold it suspect.

They pretty clearly haven't the faintest idea what they're working with.

That much is obvious. [ these people knowing what they're doing? ahahaha NOPE. ]

But what did you know about the Porter back home? Got any idea on how that changed us?

You mean how she gave origin to the powers we were granted? I have theories, and they have nothing to do with radiation.

Far more likely that we've been rewritten on a cellular level.

That makes more sense than the radiation thing. Because seriously, if it were radiation, we'd be showing signs of cancer or something like that now.

It's the only way that makes any sense. When you consider the way she generally handles us, she undoes us completely. That's how matter transference works.

If she can already do that much, it's hardly any trouble at all for her to put us back together however she pleases.

It sounds like your Porter had a great deal of autonomy. Do you think it's the same with this Porter here?

She was a god. And when I say that you have to keep in mind that there are degrees to godhood. You have Rose, and you have Loki, but Lachesis was well beyond either. That she could overpower their like as she did ours is proof enough.

And then a greater god than she overpowered her as well.

I do think she has retained quite a lot in the transfer, I believe the Porter here is still Lachesis, if only inhabiting the husk of the dormant thing already present. But her autonomy I have no doubt of, even if her powers are diminished. That's why they no longer understand her, why they can't control her.

She isn't like Clotho. She will not be bound.

So she might be biding her time over anything else.

She was uprooted the same as any of us, laid low. To reestablish herself in a proper place of power takes time. Best to do that when no one thinks to consider her a threat.

Lying low to prevent people from thinking otherwise.

Got any guesses on what her grand re-entrance might be?

She's whimsical. I wouldn't be shocked if it involved cackling, cryptic teasing, and turning the world on its ear. Maybe even literally.

But it's also possible that she's already done it. I'm sure you noticed the name of the Defense Secretary.

I have indeed. And, if it's possible for the Porter to turn others human, it's probably possible for her to turn herself human.
