[ That's a bit worrisome. What if whatever their plans are don't work out initially? How many times can they afford to make mistakes? She's already screwed up by getting caught by Osborn. ]

Are those details enough to change the course of the whether the plan is successful or not?

[ Though she can't see it, Peej places her fist against her palm, cracking her knuckles loudly. ]

Sounds good to me.

I'm curious about Nygma now, so I'll be tracking him down to talk to him.

I'll try not to hang him anywhere, but no promises.

[ After Crane, she's not the most inclined to deal with any Gotham Rogue, but in this situation there's very little choice.

If he annoys her she'll just headbutt him. ]

40%. Because I was an imPort, I'm guessing.

I mean - the schools here aren't bad. They go till 18, and then there's support for continuing on after that. That's good. It could always be better, but it's good. It's not like people are uneducated, and it's not like people are more or less likely to be idiots based on how clever they actually are, because some of the people in charge really are CLEVER but they still panic and make stupid decisions. I think it's something deeper and more entrenched in society than just the quality of the education.

[Sorry, Kanaya.

As Josuke's questionably close best friend, Hazel is automatically invited to any party he's hosting.]

[And at least this way they needn't worry about impressing each other.]

[Once the bell rings, he sets down the phone to get the door, figuring they can just continue the conversation in person.]

I wouldn't'a minded if you just poofed into the room, y'know.

[He steps to the side o give her room to come in.]

Can I get you anything? A snack or a drink or....

Oh. Awesome, then.
Coffee's great! (And I can make sure I eat in advance, so no worries!)

You know, you oughtn't talk like that. There are multiple types of intellect, and thinking, and knowledge. An Alternian preteen could give a collegiate of this world a challenge according to the standards of knowledge that YOU find valuable - but of course they could, you think those types of knowledge are valuable because they're what you learned from the beginning.

I don't want to lecture, really. But believe me, I've been called ignorant and common and stupid throughout my life, and every time I heard that all I wanted to do was never listen to that person again. If you want to reach anyone, you've got to try to reach them from a place of understanding that their culture and values might be different - but not necessarily worse.
rathercommon: (unsympathetic (maybe sympathetic))

[personal profile] rathercommon 2015-10-06 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
And that's fair. You can certainly hate the system, or the curriculum, or any of it. But being outwardly contemptuous of the people involved in it doesn't get anyone anywhere-- except offended and hostile.
rathercommon: (explaining you a thing)

[personal profile] rathercommon 2015-10-06 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
I offend YOU often, I guess. That doesn't mean that I cause offense or hostility often. I actually get along pretty well with most people.

Anyway, when I put my foot in it, I generally try to figure out what went wrong so I can fix it the next time - and so, if that's a concern for you (which it probably is, since being heard is a concern for a huge number of beings from a vast number of walks of life), I can just say with some authority that it's worth remembering that the people and the system aren't one and the same. Because, again, I come from a culture that tried actively to keep me ignorant of the broader world, and the moment that someone treats me like they succeeded? I close my ears to them entirely. And then no one gets anywhere.
rathercommon: (you need to be punched)

[personal profile] rathercommon 2015-10-06 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She takes a deep breath and pushes down her short temper. You've dealt with pricklier people than this. You made a friend of Bartimaeus, after all. ]

You know, I'd really would like to understand more about you and your people. And I'd love to listen if you're willing to talk. That'll take putting past grudges aside, but I'm definitely willing to do so if you are.
