well we have plenty of options
i can take us just about anywhere now
the point is mainly to get you out of the house for a bit
if youd like to use the five minutes it will take me to arrive to consider possible destinations then we can do that
otherwise ill figure it out on the way

I was thinking anywhere away from the city. Know anyplace a little more natural that'd be decent for dogs? Beaches, mountains, convenient volcanoes...

Are volcanoes ever convenient?

ive known convenient volcanoes before
but youd hardly want to stoke any sort of forge in a dogs company
and i dont think most beaches tend to admit them either

but i believe they tend to be fond of open spaces
if you want an isolated field we might try somewhere central
they call it the midwest i think though i can hardly guess why
theres nothing at all west about it except from a relative perspective

Seems like a strange name to call any one place, I agree, but I'm not unwilling to see it with my own eyes.

[ oddly enough, Kanaya almost made her smile with that little tangent on the odd naming conventions of this country. ]

[ and no sooner will annie have read that line than she'll hear a knock. ]

[ what timing, she thinks to herself, and her shoulders relax a degree when she heads to the door. opens it wide; invites kanaya in without a word. ]

Rex wasn't born ready, but he manages well enough by now.

[ kanaya steps through the door, giving annie a nod and a mild smile. ]

Oh, none of us is born ready, we simply have to catch up as we go along!

[ she moves further into the foyer, glancing around the corner. ]

Where is he? I want to see how big he's gotten!

[ Rex comes trotting in from the kitchen, muzzle dripping water. He's been drinking from his bowl, and on seeing Kanaya, gives a happy wag of his tail and lifts his head, ears perking forward. ]

I think he has a sixth sense for when people will be suckered into petting him.

[ Because he is definitely invading Kanaya's leg-space and looking for attention as he cranes his head back, giving her a canine grin. Annie collects his leash and the dog treats and toys packed into a light bag. She heads to the kitchen to fill up water canteens while Rex plies his wiles on Kanaya. ]

[ kanaya kneels down, rubbing rex on his ears with a ridiculously large smile. ]

Oh, look at you. Look at you! You've gotten so big, haven't you! [ he keeps trying to lick at her, but she's not ready for dog spit on face, but luckily rubbing his ears keeps him from getting too close. she scoops him up and carries him into the living room. ] Come along, you're going to sit with me.

[ she takes a seat on the couch, letting him lay across her lap, even though he's a bit too big for it, and starts preparing her portal. is he supposed to be on the couch? she probably should have asked. ]

The house is new, I notice! [ she calls out to annie, in the other room. ]

[ Rex flops down quite content across Kanaya's legs, not at all thinking he shouldn't be here. Reiner started him off with that kind of indulgence, and it's not like the couch is anything special. Annie calls back from the kitchen: ]

Reiner and I moved out mid-May. We'd been considering it for a while, and at eighteen I don't need the same kinds of co-signers on my lease if you find the right landlord.

[ Code for: possibly the wrong landlord. Or landlady, in her case. She heads back in, canteens over her shoulder, leash likewise draped over shoulder. ]

Yes, sometimes moving can really underline how little use some things get, even beyond out of season clothes. As you collect time, you end up collecting a lot of things alongside it.

[ every now and then, as she keeps reeling, rex will slap his tail against her thigh and look up at her. why did she stop petting him? dog, she can work faster with both hands.

she furrows her brows when annie returns to the room. ] But, uh. You only just turned seventeen.

[ not that kanaya doesn't know all about having to find the right landlord, she's had to keep her own household and provide for her roommates since she was fifteen. that's exactly why she's had to emancipate twice. ]

[ Annie pauses, fingers moving up the length of the leash as she looks for the clasp. ]

[ She says, cool metal coming under her fingertips. ]

Between displaced time on my world, and the ways the legal system works here, I was able to negotiate with Captain Ananke to have my paperwork redone. Now I'm eighteen.

[ Rex wiggles and huffs as he doesn't get the attention he wants, but otherwise is much politer than he used to be about this sort of thing. ]

[ well, she's not about to nuzzle him with her face, effective and tempting as it may be. but as she winds the thread across her forearm, she does ran the back of her hand against his fur during her downward passes.

but her brows raise at annie, a smile playing at her lips. ]

So, what you're telling me is that you cheated. What day was it, on your world, when you left it? Were the calendars at all equivalent?

[ she's had to convert from another calendar before, it was awful. ]
