Yes, he's been getting smarter in the human way for nearly a decade, and I'm sure it hasn't helped. Bad enough he knew the 'what' before, now he can guess at 'whys'

Ah, that makes sense. All the animals in the palace have that to some degree, and I suspect the longer Daine lives the more it will spread through the realm. But she also worked a spell on him and a number of my animals some months ago to help them understand things much better and more clearly.
