That. ...That's bad. [ Shit, that could actually be really bad. How much does he know about Power Girl's connection to her? How long before an even bigger reprisal?
On the other end of the comm, Kanaya stops breathing. ] What happened?
He confronted me, but he was smug about it. [ She drags a hand down her face. ] He made threats about restraining orders if I was caught lurking again.
He's also been trying to deflect any blame. Says you're making up the whole thing.
That doesn't surprise me. In fact, it's exactly what I would have expected from him, in these circumstances. What concerns me more is that it means he knows how much scrutiny he's under, even if he doesn't know all the parties it comes from.
It means that, if anything exists to find, he'll be that much more careful to ensure it either can't be, or that it's destroyed. We can only hope for the former.
[ She sounds guilty, but that's because she feels like an idiot for not being careful in the first place. ]
Have you ever spoken to anyone else from his world? Stark's got a problem with Osborn, I know, but asides from what he's done in his world there's nothing to catch him with here.
[ Not at the moment anyway.
A measured pause. ]
And what about the City? When I arrived, he was already there.
We've been working alongside Spider-Man since before I knew I was Hobgoblin, his history with Osborn is extensive, to understate things. In the City, there were always rumors [ She means jokes, but that seems like the wrong word for a serious discussion. ] about an illicit and antagonistic affair between him and Edward Nygma. Whether that would put Edward in a position to know anything, I couldn't say. Whether he'd willingly divulge, I'm frankly skeptical.
[ She taps her fingers on the table, trying to think if there's any other potential source she could share before playing the trump. There will be that one path still open. ]
[ She doesn't like Eddie all that much, but she does respect his reformation enough. Whether or not he'll be helpful is another thing altogether, though it's worth a try. ]
Supposedly. How much good he'll do for us is dubious, really.
[ "He's still around" is about the only thing she can say for Nygma these days. She hasn't spoken to him since the first day in Heropa, and hasn't exactly kept up with his affairs. ]
Do you know of Osborn's grandson? Normie. [ She says it with a certain distaste, she has trouble using such a childish nickname for a grown man. ] He's working for the family business now, someone we can trust placed at the very heart of the operation.
[ Normie is genuine, even compassionate. It's hard to imagine they're related, the apple couldn't have fallen farther from the tree. ]
Nothing big enough to share. It will take a deeper effort to give us something to move on, and that sort of thing we want to be ready for. It's a very big risk he's taking.
That said, it's probably time I checked in with him.
[ If he knows anything she figures she can try and shake him down. He's skinnier and weaker than her physically speaking, so she supposes hoisting him up will freak him out just enough if needed. ]
Do you think Osborn would openly retaliate if he found out Normie was ratting him out?
[ If Normie is in any danger, she wants to do anything she can to help pull him out or protect him before Norman can do any damage. ]
[ The way Normie talked about it, he's no less a victim of Norman than the rest of them, even if beyond this childhood (and being kidnapped to make his grandfather look good??) it was mostly through his legacy. But Kanaya doesn't believe Norman would even hesitate to make an example of Normie. ]
He knows the risk, possibly better than any of us, save Spider-Man. He entered that position by his own decision, before I ever spoke to him on the matter. But it is still precarious.
Any kind of progress should be directed by Rose's Sight, if we want to succeed. That is its purpose.
Normie was surprised to hear he'd let someone who isn't an Osborn into the Green Goblin suit. Legacy, apparently, is very important to him. But, from the conversations I've had with him, it's precisely what Normie would like to reclaim, as well.
[ It was difficult for Kanaya to really trust him, at first. He is still an Osborn. But for reasons like that, it's plain to her that he's just as motivated to see his grandfather go down as she is. ]
Rose sees the path to success. It isn't quite precognition, though in a partial consideration it touches on similar principles. Imagine it as stepping stones, events that must be made to transpire, actions at places and times that must be fulfilled to reach a particular goal.
For instance, she couldn't use it to give us particular information, but she could tell us where to look to ourselves discover it.
Drawbacks? Well, I only have what she's told me to speak from, but...it doesn't seem to work well when there isn't a success to be had. And even then, perhaps that success won't be immediate, nor account for any difficulties along that path.
It's possible that she had used in in January, only to have those events occur as just another step on the path we are still on. So it focuses on the big picture while losing many details.
[ That's a bit worrisome. What if whatever their plans are don't work out initially? How many times can they afford to make mistakes? She's already screwed up by getting caught by Osborn. ]
Are those details enough to change the course of the whether the plan is successful or not?
I don't...think so. If anything, it might make it more flexible. But it's a path to success, so if we follow whatever steps she can See for us, we'll be in the best possible position to succeed. From there, it's just a matter of putting it all together and, well, succeeding.

Hey, Kan. Got a moment to talk?

I had a run-in with Osborn. [ That seems dishonest. ] ... no, I wasn't thinking and got caught snooping around his company.
